Cripple
Creek Mining District Gambling Tour
This is a fantastic
tour for history buffs that love beautiful scenery.
The fun starts as soon as you jump in our 4x4 vehicles
specially designed for touring. Our tour departs
from Colorado Springs and passes through the Pike
National Forest following the gentle curves and
tunnels of the old Short Line Railroad. Built in
1901, this route was an engineering marvel with
10 tunnels carved through the granite ridges with
numerous trestles spanning the valleys.
The Cripple
Creek Mining District, was one of the richest gold
mining camps in the world. Gold was discovered in
1890, and by 1900, fifty thousand people had been
drawn to the mines. Share the story of Cripple Creek,
its historic old mining buildings and the "new
gold" restored gaming establishments
on Bennett Avenue. We will tour the old ghost towns
of Victor, Goldfield, Altman and Independence. The
panoramic view from the abandoned American Eagle
mine at 10,750 feet includes three mountain ranges
in view for 100 miles in all directions.
Try your luck in a restored 1800'2
gambling town. Limited stakes betting at $5.00 max
will keep you from going home broke.

Hwy. 24 the route of the old Midland Railroad.

Our
most popular tour includes the Broadmoor
area with it's stately old homes and resort hotel
nestled in the foothills. Our tour then climbs up
beautiful Cheyenne Canyon with it's sheer, rocky
walls and rushing stream. High up on Gold Camp Road
we drive through old train tunnels, stopping for
the incredible photo-op afforded by stunning vistas
of Colorado Springs and beyond... then we drop back
down into Old Colorado City, sample the bubbling
mineral waters of Manitou Springs and enter awe-inspiring
Garden of the Gods where we experience the park's
unique rock formations and ancient juniper trees.
The
park was the setting for Indian ceremonial gatherings
and was a famous landmark for the early mountain
men. After stops for photos, we head north to the
US Air Force Academy to view the spacious grounds
and enjoy a walking tour of the Chapel and Visitor's
Center. Depending on our schedule, we will also
visit Manitou Springs and Old Colorado City.

approx. 4 hours. Hotel pick up available at

We use Jeeps
to pick you up from major hotels and take you to
a beautiful high country area that is further accessible
only by foot or on horseback. We plan our
time to permit a 1-hour hike in the high country.
On the walking tour, you will have time to stop
and photograph some of the beautiful mountain flowers
that grow at these elevations: Columbine, Silvery
Lupine, Mountain Harebell, Snow Buttercup, Indian
Paintbrush. Each month brings out a different group
of wildflowers at different elevations. At the turn
of the century the railroads would run special "flower
trains" to take visitors to the high country
to see the panorama of color. Naturally, you will
have breathtaking views of the Colorado Rockies
and the guide will tell you a bit about the geology
and the mining that took place at the turn of the
century. Hikes can be customized to your ability
