The Cathedral
Spires at Garden of the Gods
|
This is a wonderful
Jeep outing for guests that have a little less time and/or
want a dramatic way to end the day. (The tour may
also be scheduled at other times during the day)
As a "sunset tour" it departs daily at approximately
two hours before sunset and returns just before dark.
Your authentic cowboy
driver takes you out of town via North Cheyenne Canyon
past The Star Kempf sculpture garden, fast-flowing mountain
streams, Helen Hunt Falls, and into the foothills of Pikes
Peak. 2000 feet above Colorado Springs we follow the old
Shortline Railroad grade, now known as, Gold Camp Road.
The views out over the city to the plains of Kansas can
be as great as 105 miles. You'll travel hrough two original
railroad tunnels blasted through solid rock and eventually
wind down into the Old Colorado City National Historic
District. Along the tour your guide will share tall
tales and true stories of Colorado and the West.
For the evening version,
the sun is setting as we enter Garden of the Gods with
its spectacular red rock formations bathed in purple shadows
and highlighted by the setting sun. During the day,
you'll often see expert climbers ascending the rock walls
of Garden of the Gods...hundreds of feet in height. We
stop at photo points along the way that show Pikes Peak
with a backdrop of beautiful cloud formations and the
flaming sunset.
2 hours long
We recommend adding
a cooler of beverages for each jeep to enjoy during the
tour.
